Chevrolet Impala: New Hides for an Old War Horse

Introduced on Wednesday, April 4: 2014 Chevrolet Impala.
What is it? The 10th generation of the Impala is the new flagship of the Chevrolet sedan lineup, built on a stretched Epsilon platform.
Is it real? Yes, if still just over the horizon. Like Ford with its 2013 Taurus, shown here last year, General Motors cited the timing of international auto shows as its rationale for introducing a ’14 model in 2012.
“The next show we could have introduced it at was not until Los Angeles next November,” Mike Albano, a Chevrolet spokesman, said in an interview. “That was too much of a gap, too long to wait and too close to the start of production. The car was ready to be seen here, so here it is.”
What they said: “This car looks a lot more expensive than it is,” Mark Reuss, president of General Motors North America, said when introducing the car. “We didn’t need to borrow someone else’s design to make our own statement. We had 50 years of Impala heritage to build on. But this Impala will separate itself from any Impala of any era.”
What they didn’t say: This Impala has been delayed many times: by a rocky economy, by the bankruptcy of G.M. and by the pressing need to bring a generation of small, fuel-efficient cars to Chevrolet’s lineup. In the interim, the Impala grew stale and subsequently morphed into a rental fleet queen. Up to 75 percent of 2011 models were sold for fleet duty, rather than to retail customers, Chevrolet confirmed. The new Impala is aimed squarely at the more profitable retail customer.
What makes it tick? “A range of three direct-injected engines, including a 3.6-liter V-6, new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder and a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with eAssist, that deliver enhanced performance and efficiency,” Chris Perry, Chevrolet’s global marketing chief, said. “The 2.5-liter engine will deliver 30 mile-per-gallon highway fuel economy, and the 2.4 will deliver 35 m.p.g., or more,” he added.
How much, how soon? Not scheduled to arrive until spring 2013, the redesigned Impala will be priced “somewhat higher, considering its upgraded content, but not significantly higher,” Mr. Albano said. “But it will be a premium product.” For reference, a well-equipped 2012 Impala LTZ can eclipse $30,000.
How’s it look? The top of three trim lines, the LTZ, will be a well-proportioned sedan, with 20-inch wheels and tires, a hefty dose of exterior brightwork and a handsome dual-cockpit interior with a full range of upscale electronic gizmos. But if another decade passes before this one gets redesigned, then it, too, may find its way into the rental-car lots.

Malibu Customer Review

This week I had the privilege of driving a 2012 Chevy Malibu that I test drove at Young Chevrolet in Layton, Utah. The Malibu has always been known as a reliable car and you expect nothing less. Young Chevy definitely delivered when they handed me the keys to the new 2012 Chevy Malibu.

First thing I noticed was the Chevy Malibu's new look. The exterior has great lines just making it look fast and chic. The inside has tons of room and the seats were extremely comfortable! The dark two toned interior was very appealing and almost welcomed you to sit in.
The moment I pulled out of Young Chevrolet in Layton Utah heading to Salt Lake City I noticed that the Chevy Malibu has a powerful engine. The acceleration of the Malibu was nothing short of impressive. Secondly I noticed that for a larger car it had amazing handling and turning. The road seemed almost completely bump free. The Chevy Malibu also gets great gas mileage. I only had to fill it with gas once for the entire week.  One of my favorite features of the Chevy Malibu is the enormous trunk.  I'm always carting around a lot of things for work, gym etc.  And having a large trunk like the one in the Malibu is great!

Once I left Young Chevy in Layton Utah, I noticed that people couldn't keep their eyes off of the Malibu. I enjoyed that kind of attention all week long. The staff at Young Chevrolet in Layton was also very friendly and great to work with.

Just moved to Davis County, from a larger city out of state where you don't need a car, I decided to start shopping around for a car that gets great gas mileage. I like quick and sleek cars and have really liked the look of the new Chevys. I ended up at Young Chevrolet in Layton, Utah. The customer service was great and not pushy. The salesman told me that I should try the Chevy Cruze. After taking it on a, longer than average, test drive I was in love. It gets about 45 mpg on the Highway and can go very fast. Other features that I loved was the stereo, which has great sound for a stock car. The handling was amazing! I feel pretty safe driving it even in the snow. Even though looks aren't everything to me in looking for a car, this is one I am proud to be seen in and the two toned seats look great. Obviously I bought it and have had it for two weeks. I love it! From the way it runs I'm pretty sure it loves me too. I highly recommend you checking out the new Chevy Cruze. Go take a test drive down at Young Chevrolet in Layton, UT.

General Motors Post a 13.2% U.S. Sales Gain in 2011!

General Motors posts a 13.2% U.S. sales gain in 2011, including an uptick in December deliveries of 4.6%, closing the book on year where the restructured auto maker witnessed its first annual market-share gain in a decade. GM sold 2.5 million cars and trucks in 2011, up from 2.2 million units in 2010, according to WardsAuto data. December deliveries totaled 234,351, compared with 224,147 in like-2010. GM estimates, before all auto makers have finished reporting December results, that its share of the U.S. market grew 0.5% to about 19.3% in 2011. The company last reported a year-to-year share gain in 2002. “You can see clearly that our balanced portfolio of fuel-efficient cars, trucks and crossovers helped us make the most of the U.S. economy’s slow but steady recovery,” says Don Johnson, GM’s chief sales analyst. “And we’re very well-positioned to compete in a market that we expect to keep growing in 2012,” Johnson tells journalists and Wall Street analysts during a conference call to discuss the auto maker’s December and year-end sales results. GM forecasts industry sales in 2012 of between 13.5 million and 14.0 million light vehicles, up from an estimated 12.8 million in 2010. Johnson predicts pent-up demand, which built as consumers held off purchases during the recession, will continue to drive sales. An economy that adds more jobs in 2012 would provide upside to the auto maker’s forecast, he says.

2012 Chevrolet Silverado "Home"

This week I decided to take out a brand new 2012 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab 1500 1lt.  The Silverado that I picked out and wanted to drive was a base vehicle with out all of the fancy options on some of the more amazing Chevy Silverado LTZ inventory.

After driving this amazing vehicle through the busy Layton Utah streets and getting into down town Salt Lake City Utah, I have decided that this is HOME.  The Chevy Silverado fits me and most everybody else I know like a glove.  I loved to drive this machine.  Even though it didn't have the leather seats or the touch screen navigation or any of the other fancy niceties that you can get if you would really like, it provided one of the most amazing rides.

Last week I got in a new 2012 Dodge Ram.  The dodge Ram was fully loaded with every available option including the Hemi engine.  When comparing the two I would have easily taken the Chevrolet Silverado any day of the week.  The ride felt smother and as I reviewed them both I really feel like there is no better truck on the road than the Silverado.  One example is from their web siereis that Chevrolet produced putting the Silverado and the ford head to head.  Take a look.

Another amazing feature about this truck is the room it had inside.  Not only was the front amazingly spacious but check out how huge this cab is!

If you are worrying about getting your baby seat in the back you wont have to worry about that.  Up in Ogden, UT I ran in to a few dirt roads and got to really put this truck to the test and may I say it was amazing.  I also had the opportunity to put some stuff in the back.  With the bed liner that was sprayed in by the Young Automotive Collision Center everything stayed right in its place and I wouldnt have to worry about scratching up the inside of my bed.

The other thing I could not get enough of was the rear view mirror embedded camera.  What an amazing feature!  Way better than having to look down at a navigation screen because I could still look into the mirror while at the same time viewing the back up camera.
